Description
When the Olympic Games resumed after the war, Antwerp was awarded hosting the 1920 Summer Games as tribute to the Belgian people. The aftermath of the war and the Paris Peace Conference, 1919 affected the Olympic Games not only due to new states being created, but also by sanctions against the nations that lost the war and were blamed for starting it. Hungary, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire were banned from competing in the Games. This game was produced in France to commemorate that first post war Olympic games, Each of the six die cut painted swimmers wears their respective countries swim suit with flags or colors such as American, France, Switzerland, Great Britain. The swimmers wear one piece suites with caps and all are male. The swimmers drop into the corregated waves and are propelled forward by use of a lever with stands set up on both ends. The stone lithography is superb, strong colors, working order, complete aprons with minor restoration on sides only and the cover art is spectacular. This is the only example of this rare sports game that we have come across.
