Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver Neo-Grec Centerpiece

the pattern introduced in 1877, by John C. Moore & Son, New York, New York, of loutrophoros form, the body decorated with palmettes on a matte ground, the handles with maiden's head masques at the crest and base, from the latter which extend four curved arms, each ending in an ovoid candle nozzle fitted with a detachable circular bobeche, raised on a circular base decorated with beaded Greek-key and with scrolling feet separated by maiden's masques en suite, above a conforming plinth, all surmounted by a circular fluted glass dish.

In overall good condition, but there is evidence of professional repair on at least one of the arms just above where it branches, and where one of the nozzles on that arm has been re-attached, and possibly at the base of the vase. There are some joins on the arms visible with close inspection, but their regular placement suggests they are part of the original construction. Some of the arms are slightly out of alignment, and the base has a slight wobble. Scattered bumps and scuffs associated with age and use. Marked (on the underside) with "Tiffany & Co. / English Sterling / 925-1000 / 4924 / 530 Broadway" flanked by the gothic "M" mark of John C. Moore & Son; the "Tiffany & Co." is obscured by the plinth retaining nut; pattern number "4924" repeated on the underside of each bobeche. The glass dish is probably of later date and in good condition, with some tiny chips and flea bites, particularly at the pointed tips, but no cracks or breaks noted.
