Good New Orleans-Retailed Coin Silver Wine Jug

third quarter 19th century, by Wood & Hughes, New York, New York, for Hyde & Goodrich, New Orleans, Louisiana, the cylindrical jug decorated with repousse Bacchante centering a rococo cartouche, the waisted collar with repousse grapevines, with shaped integral spout with applied grape stalk banding, the arched handle with chevrons and mascaron mount, monogrammed "A" on the cartouche.

There is a shallow dent along the basal edge, about 1-1/4" long, making the underside perimeter slightly out of round, with a shallow area of rippling on the underside corresponding to the dent. There is also a shallow 3/8" x 1/4" dent on the body near the base, somewhat concealed by the gown of one of the figures, and another of similar size on one of the grape clusters on the collar. Otherwise in quite good condition, with only light surface wear commensurate with age. Marked (on the underside) "Hyde & Goodrich" over "W&H".
