Herter Brothers Aesthetic Movement Cabinet

ca. 1880, branded "Herter Bro's", New York, executed in ebonized and naturally finished cherry, brass and copper, the projecting cornice over a pair of drawers, each with inlaid brass stringing and inlaid banding with crescents and dots, the ring drawer pulls echoing the crescent and dot motif, over a bank of three drawers, all with brass pulls with elaborately modeled backplates, flanked by doors, the doors and base with mixed metal panels with butterflies and flora, the feet probably replaced.

In good "as found" condition. The surface exhibits indications of past cleaning, some re-ebonizing, wear and losses to the lacquered surfaces on the drawers, losses to inlaid brass stringing on drawer fronts, and mars, dings and wear. The case is sturdy with no movement in its glue joints. The legs and lower molding may be later replacements. Drawer hardware is original. Some minor chips/losses to the bottom reeding on the top drawers.
