Description

A LOUIS PHILIPPE GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE FIGURAL MANTLE CLOCK, 1840s, the circular hinged bronze and glass bezel opening to a conforming dial, enclosing black enameled Roman chapters and blued steel hands above twin key escapements, set within a stylized rockwork case supporting a crisply cast seated Renaissance Revival maiden beauty with elaborate hairstyle centering a single jeweled bandeau, gazing afar with a pensive expression and one arm extended behind and her hand holding an envelope, while wearing a billowing shawl above a long ribbon trimmed gown partially revealing square tipped slippers, raised on a sloping rectangular base nicely cast in relief with a ribbon tied berried laurel wreath flanked by acanthus leaf rinceaux and corner anthemions, above a conforming gilt plinth elevated on a reticulated curling acanthine foliage modeled apron with similarly cast feet. Height: 16 3/4" Width: 14 1/2" Depth: 5 7/8"
