Wojciech Fangor was a Polish graphic artist and painter and the co-creator of the Polish School of Posters. His work is often associated with Op Art artists such as Bridget Riley. Fangorâ€â„¢s brightly colored blurred circles, clouds, and biomorphic shapes are distinguishing features of both his painting and graphic work. Born on November 15, 1922, in Warsaw, Poland, Fangor studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw where he was trained in Socialist realism. The artist went on to live in West Berlin, the United Kingdom, and the United States only returning to Poland in 1999. â€Å“A drawing is a basic and direct method of contacting with the world we see and study,” Fangor said, â€Å“Reality is intangible. Drawing helps grasp, record, and control it.” The artistâ€â„¢s works were included in shows at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York. He died on October 25, 2015 in Warsaw, Poland.
