Description

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely set of 2 hand-built pottery mothers, each holding their respective child in their arms. The first figure bears a light red hue with a nodule-form cap as she supports her child up near her chest. The second figure exhibits light tan and beige hues and wears a tapered cap while supporting her child's upper body while they sit playfully in her lap. Size (larger): 3.125" W x 5.125" H (7.9 cm x 13 cm); (smaller): 2.875" W x 3.75" H (7.3 cm x 9.5 cm)

Condition

Both mother figures and their children have repairs with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Each figure has minor nicks, abrasions, encrustations, and softening to some finer details. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
