Description
Near East, Persia, Seljuq Empire (Seljuk, Saljuq), Kashan, ca. 13th century CE. A beautiful pottery bowl exhibiting an elegant silhouette with a flat base and flared walls that span outwards to a broad, annular rim. Boasting liberal remains of turquoise, yellow, and black pigments, the interior basin is incised with a petite, central tondo of a stylized bird motif. Size: 7.4" Diameter x 3.9" H (18.8 cm x 9.9 cm)

This piece was previously part of the esteemed H. Kevorkian Collection. Hagop Kevorkian (1872 to 1962) was an Armenian-American archeologist, connoisseur of art, and collector, who helped America acquire a taste for Eastern artifacts. Items from his collection are now owned by many reputable museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Freer Gallery in Washington, D.C., Brooklyn Art Museum, and the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.

Repaired from several pieces with restoration over break lines. Some restoration to rim. Expected nicks and abrasions throughout. Otherwise, very nice with liberal remaining pigments. Sotheby's collection label on interior. Base has 3 old collection labels: 1 from H. Kevorkian Collection.
