Description
A primitive diorama depicting Saint Isidore the Farmer plowing field with oxen lead by child (angel). St Isidore is the patron saint of Madrid and is widely venerated as the patron saint of farmers, peasants, day laborers and agriculture in general, as well as brick layers. Late 19th to early 20th century in original paint, probably Spanish/Central American. One horn missing from oxen, minor glue repair to base of plow, some surface wear and paint losses but overall good condition. Measures 10 3/4"W x 15 3/4"D x 16 1/2"H. The figures seem to be constructed from paper mache. Provenance: From the Doris and Jerry Soldner collection, Lake Carmel NY (formally of Kingston NY).
