Description
Hamilton Hamilton, 1847 - 1928, active in New York and Connecticut. O/C Impressionist autumn landscape, probably of the Hudson Valley, depicting houses along the river front in the background and on the opposite side of the river in the foreground, artist depicts a mountainside with houses and barns along country lane opposite creek overlooking river - note the lady hanging wash in her backyard and person riding horse on dirt road. Signed lower left "Hamilton Hamilton NA". The painting has been relined and is in very good condition in a quality newer gilded frame, circa 1880. Hamilton was active in the Silvermine Guild in CT and worked out of NY City were he had friendships with Thomas Moran, Robert Blum, Winslow Homer, William Merritt Chase and Birge Harrison. He was also noted for working in Long Island and Peekskill NY. The total frame measures 30 1/2" x 40 1/2" and the stretcher measures 20 1/4" x 30 1/8".
