E. Howard & Co. No. 61 Mahogany and Burl Veneer Astronomical Regulator Clock
Boston, Massachusetts circa 1865-1880
The case topped with a broken pediment centering an urn and flanked by carved fan devices, above the arched glazed full length door opening to 15-in. reverse painted dial marked "E. Howard Co./Boston, Mass," brass eight-day movement with brass dust covers, four-arm jeweled gravity escapement, original silvered beat-scale applied to a shell-carved mounting bracket, regulated by a four-jar mercury temperature-compensated pendulum on a molded and paneled lower case. Height 7 feet 10 inches, width 31 1/4 inches, depth 14 1/4 inches.

Condition
old refinish, lacks weight, mercury emptied from pendulum jars (and not retained), small losses to carved elements, reglazing to glass panels, pin at end of pendulum bent slightly, small crack to mahogany dial surround, strip of wood added to one side with screws (could be removed but screw holes remain), pendulum apparatus marked "408/3211"; the clock has not been running, and the pendulum is disconnected
