Description
(Disneyland, c.1965) An original concept painting created by Disney Legend Mary Blair for It's a Small World at Disneyland. The painting depicts a scene for the Polynesian Islands to be installed for Disneyland's version of the attraction following its success at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. According to fellow Imagineer Rolly Crump, "The Polynesian Islands weren't represented in the World's Fair version of the attraction, so Mary was trying to figure out how to have it fit in visually with the rest of the ride". This original Mary Blair concept captures the spirit of Aloha, with two Polynesian "Children of the World" aboard a traditional outrigger canoe. It is accomplished in acrylic on artist's board, and measures 11"x14.25". The condition is very fine with a slight curve to the board and minor surface wear from use.
