Anecdotally, the landscape on the back of this panel was done by Sister Ernestine Foskey (1859-1947), a Sister of Charity and student of Frank Duveneck. However, the unknown signature calls this into question.

In overall fine and stable condition, with later varnish. Small, uneven circular surface blemish above subject's right ear. Minor areas of inpainting visible near ear and to lower right corner.
