Henry Sandham (Canadian, 1842-1910). "Stalking the Wapiti. (Elk Hunting)" chromolithograph. Published by Bradlee - Whidden, Boston, 1889-1890. A fabulous 19th century chromolithograph that came from the portfolio entitled, "Sport or Fishing and Shooting" - a series that included 15 chromolithographs by various respected artists. In this scene we have a group of elk - a male bull with grand antlers accompanied by three female elks (also called cows). Look closely and you will see a tiny staffage figure on a path below - perhaps a hunter given the title. All is set in a sublime landscape with majestic snowcapped mountains in the distance. Size of image: 12" L x 18" W (30.5 cm x 45.7 cm) Size of sheet: 18" L x 24" W (45.7 cm x 61 cm)
