Ancient Near East, Syrian Provincial, Proto-Literate Period, ca. mid to late 4th millennium BCE. A hand-carved steatite stamp seal of a square form with a nubbin handle protruding from the verso. Incised on the obverse face are five concentric circles in a cruciform pattern surrounded by peripheral rays. Custom putty impression included. Size: 0.875" L x 0.875" W (2.2 cm x 2.2 cm); 2.125" H (5.4 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002

Condition
Light abrasions to stamp face and minor fading to red pigment within some incised details, otherwise intact and very good. Faint remains of pigment across stamp face.
