Early 17th century A.D. A silver bodkin with a tapering rounded rectangular-section body and finial formed as a shallow ear scoop, circular and rectangular piercings below, bifacial geometric ornament executed in a naive style. 10.3 grams, 13.6 cm (5 3/8 in.) Acquired on the UK antiques market between 1974-1985. Albert Ward collection (part 3), Essex, UK. Bodkins were used to thread bands of yarn through all types of clothing. The scoop at the end was to pick out ear wax used to smooth the thread. [No Reserve]
