Description
Quite the complimentary Edgefield pot to other showstopper, made in 1850-60 timeframe. Benjamin Landrum had a small shop at the Horse Creek Valley location w/ about 1/2 dozen employees, including a couple women. These were Caucasian potters, etc. Between one lug handle the lip has the legendary (but rarely seen) 5 circular or raised cross stamps (aka 5 G). Stands 16" by 12".
Condition
Professional restoration to rim. UPDATE RE CLOSER INSPECTION OF INCREDIBLE PROFESSIONAL RESTORATION OF JAR that is a fantastic historic pot. There is a mid upper body restored crack and associated spidering that was initially missed by our assessment. Also there is a small area of restoration of a some spider cracks to the base. Both handles have small areas of surface chip restoration that are almost imperceptible.
