Description
PROVENANCE:
From the Estate of Gerrik Baters, Jr. of Cartersville, GA (1928 - 2020). Veteran, Accountant, Private Collector. After several attempts he found success and a path towards a new career. He also was surrounded and fascinated by the ornate porcelain pieces that she had collected over the years. Learning the history, studying the marks and identifying certain aspects of these items became his passion. His friends called him the professor of Porcelains. While his knowledge has passed with him many of his treasures are left behind.
Dimensions: 11-1/4" H x 13-1/4" Dia.
VERY FINE Chinese Yuan Dynasty period blue and white porcelain Jar. The underglaze bulbous body, decorated with hand-painting in variegate tones and shades cobalt blue underglaze, depicted vigorous dragon striding amidst flames. Auspicious geometrical pattern and floral motifs banded to the neck under the rim. Initiated conjugated marks between upper and lower parts of the vase during the kiln process can be seen from uneven surface below the shoulder. A characteristic ‘heaped and piled effect’, the underglaze cobalt blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy and shading to the design. Initiated conjugated marks between upper and lower parts of the vase during the kiln process can be seen from uneven surface below the shoulder. The shape is uniformly proportioned. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese Guanyao porcelain Imperial wares , with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, the painting, and the shape.
