Description
Romare Bearden "The Family" Signed Serigraph This skillful serigraph by renown African-American artist Romare Bearden recreates the look of a woodblock with its layered use of the silkscreen that gives unmatched depth and texture to the artwork. Born in 1914, Bearden grew up steeped in the Harlem Rennaisance before moving to Pittsburg and then joining the military during WWII. After the war, he studied at the Sorbonne on the GI Bill, and dedicated himself to art. The progression of his work was greatly influenced by the Civil Rights Movement, and much of his work centers on the aspirations and struggles of Black Americans. This powerful piece centers on a Harlem dinner table, where a Black family are stoically depicted in a domestic scene heightened by Cubist proportions, and bold Expressionist colors. This piece is numbered 61 of 175. This is one of the smallest print runs from Bearden, making it an exceptionally rare piece presented in mint condition with its original folio. It has never been framed, since its creation in 1975. Approximate size: 19.5" x 25.75" Approximate weight: 0.57 lbs
