Vicente Dopico Lerner (1943-2020) Watercolor and Ink on Paper. In gallery frame. In frame measures 22"x29"x1 1/2": Weight 9 pds.. Vicente Dopico Lerner (1943-2020) was a painter in Miami, Florida. He was born in Havana, Cuba and came to the United States in 1964. He received a bachelor's and a master's degree in fine arts from St. Thomas University in Miami. He also studied art at the Art Students League of New York in the 1970s where he studied with Robert Motherwell, Rodolfo Abularach, and other prominent artists. Vicente Dopico-Lerner was a multidisciplinary artist with a long-standing career and a solid body of work in which abstract expressionism, surrealism and neofiguration go hand in hand. Dopico Lerner also wrote on Latin American art and was the director of the Cuban Museum of Art and Culture in Miami. His work can be found in The Museo de Arte Moderno in Santo Domingo; at the Fundacion Miguel Hernandez in Orihuela Spain; at Casa de las Americas Cuba; at the Museo de las Americas in Denver; at the Cornell Museum; at the Institute for International Studies in New York (this was the institution that granted him the Cintas Fellowship); The Smithsonian Latino Collection and also in various private collections.
