Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Peru, Chimu / Inca, ca. 1100 to 1532 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel in the form of an abstract crustacean or arthropod. The wondrous creature presents with a segmented ovoid body, a tapered tail, a pointed head with slender whiskers, and protruding eyes, all above an integral base. A stirrup-shaped handle with a cylindrical spout emanates from above the creature, and to one side of the spout is a petite monkey. Size: 8.4" L x 4.2" W x 8.3" H (21.3 cm x 10.7 cm x 21.1 cm)

Condition
Minor nicks and abrasions, with softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of pigment and great root marks throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
