Samuel Parker was an American preacher who was a missionary to remote Native American Indian tribes. Parker led an exploration voyage with the intent of discovering the views of native tribes, specifically their views toward Christianity. He kept a journal detailing the events of the expedition which was later published.
The book includes vocabulary of various Indian languages, geology and geography of the American west. Other interesting topics include some of the earliest descriptions of the interior of Oregon, descriptions of Mormons, natural history, and a description of Honolulu and Hawaii.
