Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Inca, ca. 1438 to 1533 CE. A hand-built, aryballos-shaped pottery vessel known as an urpu that presents with a series of vertical, red-painted bands across the obverse. The piriform vessel exhibits a narrow, conical base, a pair of strap handles, a tapered shoulder, and a corseted neck topped with a flared rim. Two columns of abstract button-like decorations painted in black flank the central band of red pigment, and above is a single protuberance. Size: 6.875" W x 8.3" H (17.5 cm x 21.1 cm)

Condition
Professionally repaired and restored from over a dozen pieces, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Several stable hairline fissures across verso, with fading and abrasions to original pigment, light encrustations, a few small spalls, and chipping to some new pigment. Nice preservation to original decorative motif. Old inventory label beneath base.
