Description
African Tribal Deer Hunting Headdress Statue Sculpture. Ethnographic sculpture carved in solid wood depicting a deer. Painted red with wonderfully carved and painted eyes, mouth and ears. Several nails throughout the sculpture, notably around the base of the neck and at top of head, potentially indicates that the sculpture was once covered in animal skin and part of a ceremonial costume. Possibly of Yoruba or Krio origin of Nigeria or Sierra Leone.
