Description

Oil on canvas 26 x 38 in. Jonas Gerard was born in Casablanca, Morocco, in 1941. He began his artistic career on the streets of New York City and spent many decades in the Miami area before moving to Asheville, North Carolina, in 2007. Currently operating two galleries in Asheville's River Arts District, both with large studio spaces, Jonas is well known for live painting performances. He is a self-taught painter. With techniques honed over a lifetime as a working artist, his work is not aimed at intellectual perception; it is aimed at the human heart. His best paintings are those created intuitively with an effortlessness of experience. Good structure, composition and color are achieved without struggle, resulting in the expression of feeling into action, essence of color, and push; and pull forms. Jonas operates two studios/galleries in 10,000+ s.f. of space in Asheville, North Carolina. ?-President Gerald R. Ford accepted Jonas' painting, "We The People," at the White House in Washington, DC, in 1975.
