1858 Confederate Brigadier General JAMES CONNER ALS
JAMES CONNER (1829-1883). Confederate Brigadier General who served at Fort Sumter, 1st Bull Run, Seven Pines, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Siege of Petersburg.
July 1, 1858-Dated, Scarce Autograph Letter Signed, "James Conner", 5.5" x 9.25", 1 page, quality period paper, Broad Street, Extremely Fine. Boldly penned in rich deep brown ink, mailing folds. Conner's 2.5" long signature is vivid. Written to Judge James Simons scheduling a meeting for the two the next day. Reads in full: "I recd your note at five this afternoon - I was engaged all the morning in the Federal Court and have still three cases to try, one of which will occupy the entire day tomorrow. I will however endeavor to see you tomorrow afternoon say at six". Conner's name is also penned in another hand near left margin, docketing his letter.
