Description
The honor box was first used in English taverns around 1700. Upon insertion of an English half penny, the customer would push the plunger and the lid would open. The customer was then on his or her honor to only take a certain amount of product and close the lid. Some of these early vendors made their way to America with the colonists. There are different versions and usually made of brass. This example is original and compete in wonderful condition given the age. With key. Reference: "Silent Salesman Too" by Bill Enes, page 279.
