Western Europe, probably England or France, Neoclassical Period, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful tie pin with a slender, pointed body that emanates from the verso of an ovoid bezel. Within the bezel is a hand-carved carnelian cameo featuring the right-facing image of a whimsical woman, perhaps Venus (Greek Aphrodite), the goddess of love. The woman wears a flowing vestment and stands with her right arm above her head and her left draped down at her sides.
