The facsimile [copy] of the first state dust jacket is protected by the mylar cover. Original hard boards, Confederate-gray cloth [some wear, small crease on top between spine and front board: see photos]; ca. 6" x 8.1/2", name of the former owner and '1936' is pencil written on the front endpaper, 1037 pages, a little soiling; very good condition.
A Civil War Saga:
"The stirring drama of the Civil War and Reconstruction is brought vividly to life in this really magnificent novel...
The story epitomizes the whole drama of the South under the impact of War and its aftermath. The ruggedness and strength of north Georgia's red hills are in the characters -- gruff and blustering, Gerald O'Hara; Ellen, his wife; Mammy, who both loved and chastened Ellen's daughters; the rollicking Tarleton twins; stately John Wilkes, and a host of others forming a rich picture of Southern life."
