Neal Doty was born in Glendale, California in 1941. His art education began at the Art Center of Design in Los Angeles. Doty went on to study at Los Angeles City College, where he received his Associate of Fine Arts degree. Neal then completed his education at California State University Northridge and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts. Doty, a veterinarian from Vietnam, also attended USC School of Medicine, where he worked for several years as a paramedic. The talented artist met the abstract expressionist painter Hans Burkhardt when he was still an art student; He cites his friend of her as a well-loved mentor who taught her never to lose control of his brush of her. In 1976, Doty received first place at the Larchmont Art Show in Hollywood, California.

Although his painting methods from him have acquired a very unique style, his works from him show influences ranging from Picasso's Cubist period to the works of Matisse and Dali. Neal Doty is an artist of impressive control and aptitude and has grown into a masterful talent. Doty has shown a true love for the work he creates throughout his life, be it drawing, painting, printmaking, or etching. His art of him has appeared in the N.Y. Art Expo in New York City, The Wash Art Fair in Washington, D.C. and the Basel Art Fair in Basel, Switzerland.
