Louis August Sargent (1881 - 1965). Oil on board. Titled "Porth, Newquay". Signed on lower left and on verso, the title of the art and other markings are handwritten in pencil (See photos). The subject is a coastal seascape off of the Cornish coast where Sargent was known for painting. A vibrant example of Sargent's work, the scene depicts water crashing over rocks. Born in London and the son of an engraver, Louis is known for his portraits, landscapes, & marine paintings as well as for his illustrations and sculptures. Sargent was exhibited regularly including the London Galleries in 1898, St Ives in 1910, and Lanhams in 1919 to name a few. Several of his famous works include "The Cornish Coast Night", "The Moon", and "Portrait of Miss Millie Dow"; all three he completed in 1911. Sargent was heavily influenced by Post-Impressionism as are seen by the vibrant colors he used when painting the Cornish coast. "Porth, Newquay" is framed, and is in very good condition. Board behind frame measures approximately 19 inches width X 13.5 inches height and frame is approximately 21.5 inches width X 16.5 inches height.
