Note from consignor:
Ellsworth (Skip) Taylor saw Michael Hall's horse and jockey which Edgar had led Michael to in a yard near Edgar's home. Michael bought it from the owner while Skip was working for Kentucky Educational Television. Skip soon saw Michael's find and in turn went to Edgar and commissioned the artist to carve him a similar likeness. This carving along with an Uncle Sam were later traded by Skip for an antique whirligig. This early contact period carving by Edgar and Michael Hall's, now at Milwaukee, are the only known examples of this scene.
