Description
Greek, Early Corinthian 620-600 B.C..Beige clay, cream slip, dark brown and red matt glaze. H. 10.6 cm. Dm. mouth 3.4 cm.On the front of this perfume oil container, Boreas, the personification of the north wind, strides to right. On the back, an owl on a large rosette, its body turned to left, its face depicted frontally. Small rosettes as filling ornaments. Line and dot friezes on the plate-mouth, tongue frieze on the neck; at the bottom a rosette and ring. Added red enlivens the figures. Almost complete, reassembled, restorations above the head and next to the right hand of Boreas.Formerly priv. coll Basel, 1990s.
