Description
(1902 - 1979) German general, served as chief of intelligence-gathering on the Eastern Front. Gehlen was heavily involved in the July 20 plot but was never exposed. T.L.S. 'Gehlen' on personal letterhead in German, 1p. legal folio, May 12, 1975, responding to a question about a former colleague. In part: '...Thank you very much for your letter...Colonel i.G. v. Roenne, who was very close to me, was judged in connection with July 20, 1944 as an accessory to the conspiracy...' Creased, else fine condition. Accompanied by a hand addressed envelope. In the fallout of the July 20th attempt on Hitler's life more than 7,000 people were arrested, with 4,980 being executed.
