T.L.S. as commander of SS-V Division, 1p. 4to., 'Headquarters', May 7, 1940 to SS-Gruppenfuhrer Walter Schmidt, Chief of SS Personnel. Hausser mentions that he has discussed an issue with SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer FRITZ VON SCHOLZ (1896-1944). A complaint had been made about von Scholz and he wrote a letter using unexpected language at the letter's conclusion. A report had also been made by someone outside the SS of some action von Scholz had undertaken. Hausser reports that von Scholz admitted that he had exceeded bounds and adds: '...It is about time that SS men who feel that they have been mistreated keep complaints within the troop...'. Fritz von Scholz was a dedicated Waffen-SS officer and recipient of the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. He first fought in the west before leading SS units in Russia, then he fought partisans in Croatia, and returned to Russia to lead SS armor in the defense of the Narva bridgehead near Leningrad where he was killed.
