Description
Late 18th-early 19th century, pine. Dovetailed case with applied molding and original onion turned feet. Three dovetailed drawers with replaced brasses. Lid has reshaped and painted wrought iron straps that appear to be original. Interior till, bear trap lock. Case and lid have old dark green and red paint with rough surface that includes horses (unicorns) and flower vase reserves. Paint appears to be original with old yellowed varnish and some enhancements around horses. Penciled note on the lid "This chest was made about #1821". Includes note "Given to Elva Baker Bass from her Father & Mother. Found at Littletown, PA #1923". Wear and edge nicks with some edge loss including feet and pieced repairs to applied waist molding. 30"h. 50.75"w. 24.25"d.
