RUBINI GIOVANNI BATTISTA: (1794-1854) Italian Tenor. A major early exponent of the Bel Canto. His Tenorino voice and his ringing with the high register of his voice inspired the writing of operatic roles which are almost impossible to cast at today´s date. Scarce A.L.S., `Gio[vanni] Batt[ist]a Rubini´, one page, 8vo, Saint Petersburg, 2nd February 1845, to his friend Giovanni Puggi, London, in Italian. Rubini sends a kind letter to his friend Puggi, stating in part `Profitto del vostro amabile… per scrivirli queste… e dirti che non mi scordo mai dei miei buoni amici. Come va la tua salute? Come va la cara e Buena Giacinta, come vanno tuoi affari? Spero che tutto andra bene … addio caro Puggi, abbraccia la dolce tua sposa…´ (''I take the occasion of your kind ... to write these words to you ... and tell you that I never forget my good friends. How's your health? How is the dear and good Hyacinth, how is your business? I hope everything will go well ... goodbye dear Puggi, hug your sweet bride ...'') With blank address leaf. Overall small creasing, otherwise G Giovanni Puzzi (1792-1876) was the most celebrated horn player of his time. He travelled the courts of Europe, moving to England around 1817 on the invitation of the Duke of Wellington. He played first horn at famous venues such as the Philharmonic Society, Concert of Ancient Music and King's Theatre. Later, he took up the post of Professor of horn at the Royal Academy of Music. He married Giacinta Toso (1807-1889) a famous Italian soprano. For over half a century thereafter, she and her husband maintained a musical salon in London through which many of the greatest musical stars of the age made their entry into musical life in England.
