GARBO GRETA: (1905-1990) Swedish-American actress, Academy Award winner. A wonderful, early vintage signed 10 x 13 photograph of the actress in a pensive head and shoulders pose with one hand gently raised to the side of her face. Photograph by Ruth Harriet Louise and bearing her Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer credit stamp to the verso. Signed ('Greta Garbo') by the actress in bold, dark fountain pen ink to the image. Authentic signed photographs of Garbo are notoriously rare, and it is very seldom that images of this size and quality appear at auction. One slight crease and minor closed tear to the lower left corner, otherwise VG Ruth Harriet Louise (1903-1940) American photographer, the first female photographer active in Hollywood. Louise ran Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's portrait studio from 1925-30 (before George Hurrell was given charge of the department) and was one of only seven photographers permitted to make portraits of Garbo.
