Description
A thought-provoking original ink drawing on paper, depicting various curious figures including a house-like creature, an octopus, and a man in boat, by California graffiti artist Ekundayo Reid. Signed middle right. This drawing was from the private collection of a curator and gallery owner from Los Angeles, who has a collection of artworks ranging from Barry McGee to Picasso. Purchased directly from the artist in 2018. Dimensions: 14h x 11w (unframed). In excellent condition. Ekundayo is a Los Angeles-based artist and muralist. His expression, Sorrow Becomes Joy, is evident in his artistic style in which he balances hardships and triumphs within the human condition. Ekundayo depicts mythical creatures from within his own imagination and there is a certain level of sensitivity that leaves the viewer feeling mystified. There is a dream-like quality to Ekundayo’s paintings that exude both sadness and beauty. The artist draws from inspiration from graffiti, hip-hop, jazz, and animation. Over the course of his career Ekundayo has been invited to travel the world and create murals in Mongolia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and of course the United States of America. He has also had the opportunity to have his works featured in the Pasadena Museum of California Art, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, and the Akron Art Museum, and has been published in High Fructose Magazine, Juxtapoz Magazine, Walls and Frames: Fine Art from the Streets, and Virtuosos of Paint.
