Jean Mahie is a partnership between Jacqueline Mazard and her father-in-law Jean, a savvy businessman who recognized her talent, helping her develop a successful line of jewelry with a very personal and primitive style. Growing up in Carthage, Tunisia, Jacqueline took an early interest in art and design, drawing her inspiration from the surrounding ancient Roman remains. First, she practiced painting, before exploring forging techniques. Major jewelers such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels took an interest in Jean Mahie's creations, but the designers, who wished to preserve their distinctive style by creating only one-of-a-kind pieces, chose to distribute their production exclusively through Neiman Marcus in New York. This is how the Jean Mahie line became classics throughout Europe and the United States.
