Description

Finely painted Sevres porcelain plaque dating to 1804-12 in faux hard stone agate cameo style by Marie-Victoire Jaquotot. French empire interior scene of ancient scholarly roman or greek nude male reading a tablet with roman & egyptian design elements adorning the interior. Note Jaquotot was considered Sevres best miniature painter at the early 19th century. In 2010 a tea set with her portraits & owned by emperor Napoleon was sold at auction in NYC for $360,000. Also a set of these hard stone painted plaques are in the Louvre Museum in the Kings collection. Also back has incised W at outer edge along with red Sevres mark and artist signature. Dimensions: Plaque 5.5 inches/Framed 6.25 inches

Condition

Very Good. No cracks chips or repairs. Some wear mostly around outer front edge of plaque and some nicking on back outer edge. Frame is very good but fabric is fraying in spots.
