JACQUES-LOUIS DAVID The Coronation of Napoleon Lithograph, no apparent inscriptions, subject shows the coronation of Napoleon in Notre Dame de Paris, window measures approx 8 x 11 3/4 in. Frame measures approx 12 x 15 3/4 in. Gold toned wood frame with red matting, surface wear to frame, professionally framed, not examined out of frame. Original oil painting was completed in 1807 by Jacques-Louis David, the official painter of Napoleon. The oil painting has imposing dimensions – it is almost 10 metres (33 ft) wide by a little over 6 metres (20 ft) tall. The work is on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The work was commissioned by Napoleon orally in September 1804, and David started work on it on 21 December 1805 in the former chapel of the College of Cluny, near the Sorbonne, which served as a workshop.
