Ansel Adams Signed Postcard Beckett Slabbed

ADAMS, ANSEL. Postcard Signed, "Ansel Adams", on verso, 6" x 4.25", photolithographic image of “Mirror Lake and Mount Watkins / Yosemite National Park, California," taken by Ansel Adams circa 1920s. Published by 5 Associates, Redwood City, California. Slabbed by Beckett Authentication Services, numbered 00010741667. Plastic slab has some scratches, but the postcard appears to be in Fine condition, with a bold signature by Adams.

Ansel Adams (1902-1984) was an American photographer and environmentalist. He is the most important landscape photographer of the 20th century, and perhaps the most widely known and beloved photographer in the history of the United States; the popularity of his work has only increased since his death. Adams’s most important work was devoted to what was or appeared to be the country’s remaining fragments of untouched wilderness, especially in national parks and other protected areas of the American West. He was also a vigorous and outspoken leader of the conservation movement.

Adams made his first trip to Yosemite in 1916 when he was just 14. After a San Francisco childhood spent playing in the dunes behind the Golden Gate and the shoreline at Land’s End, the young Adams had an eye for the romance of nature. As he later wrote of his first impression of Yosemite, “That first impression of the valley—white water, azaleas, cool fir caverns, tall pines and solid oaks, cliffs rising to undreamed-of heights, the poignant sounds and smells of the Sierra… was a culmination of experience so intense as to be almost painful.”

In 1952, Adams and his wife, Virginia, formed a publishing business named 5 Associates. Its original purpose was to print postcards and souvenir items for sale in Yosemite National Park. Over the years the line was expanded to include high quality photographic books, notecards, postcards, Christmas cards, and matted reproductions.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
