Description

Bell Telephone Co. subscriber set, consisting of "coffin" style magneto ringer box with automatic switch hook, Ca 1879, and two unmarked near pair of non Bell hard rubber longpole receivers, Ca 1894-1900. Ringer box manufactured by Charles Williams, Jr., Boston Massachusetts; manufacturer of receivers unknown. Ringer box marked on front above switch hook: "MADE BY / BELL TELEPHONE CO." / 109 COURT ST. BOSTON." Two binding posts immediately above switch hook on each side marked "T" underneath. Condition: small chip out of bottom of left side panel, back board cracked on lower left bottom, fading on bottom panel; otherwise overall excellent with the exception of scratching and surface wear consistent with age. Lightening arrestor pin period but no original; otherwise ringer box presents appearance of completeness of all original components of the outside. Magneto crank turns but internal components not otherwise tested or examined. Receiver elements appear complete with slight possible water damage to one. Ringer box has period "rattlesnake" receiver cords. A very early desirable Bell piece. From the Howard Hazelcorn collection.
