Abstract wood assemblage sculpture 17" tall x 8.5" wide x 6.25" deep by Herbert Wasserman (1925-2003) attended the Art Students League of New York from 1947-1949 and studied at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris from 1950 to 1952. When he came to San Francisco in 1953, he became part of the group of abstract artists working at the California School of Fine Arts, now the San Francisco Art Institute. In 1956, he founded the Triangle Gallery on Columbus Avenue in North Beach, with two other artists. During the gallery’s short life it hosted exhibits of Wasserman’s work, along with that of Richard Dibenkorn, Elmer Bischoff, Walter Kuhlman, James Budd Dixon and Sargent Johnson.Born in NYC, Wasserman was involved in The Battle of The Bulge (WWII). Stayed in Paris after the war and studied Art. Herbert was a part of the groundbreaking group of SF artists at what is now the San Francisco Art Institute. A co-founder of the Triangle Gallery in North Beach, Wasserman hung with Frank Lobdell, Richard Diebenkorn and James Budd Dixon to name a few.
