Antique 19th century 15kt. yellow gold carnelian intaglio signet ring with the carved crest of arms, depicting an elephant.
Made in England, London. Ca.1900’s
Tested positive for 18kt. yellow gold.
The elephant is a symbol of huge strength and stature, wisdom and courage. In heraldry, it is a very appropriate bearing for those who have distinguished themselves in the East. The elephant's head or tusks are more common that the whole elephant, but even this can be found on some crests and in coats of arms.
