Description
1884 Arabian Nights Arabic Tales Breslau & Calcutta John Payne Persia 3v SET
“A loss that can be repaired by money is not of such very great importance.”
– The Arabian Nights
During the Golden Age of Islam in South and West Asia, a collection of tales and stories was gathered and called “One Thousand and One Arabian Nights”. It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights and introduces some of the most well-known characters of literature including Aladdin, Ali Baba, and Sinbad the Sailor.
This impressive, limited John Payne edition was published in 1884 and is noticeably beautiful. This example is numbered no. 383 of 500. Poet John Payne had an affinity for Persian and Arab history and his translations of Arabian Nights, Omar Khayyam, and Montesquieus “Persian Letters” have remained quite popular. This particular issue, as the title suggests, contains stories that had never before been printed in English.
