This cast brass bird is quite naturalistically modeled with vigorous incised detailing with,on its back a round blanket or saddle with cross-hatched decoration. Its chest and underside of the tail have drilled openings and itstands on a rectangular base with a circular hole for attachment. The chest hole may indicate its function as an oil container, although they may be a later alteration because the oil outlet on similar objects is usually cast as a projection with thebody.Bibliography: Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India by Mark Zebrowski pub.
