Item Details
Description
Near East, Persia, Iran, Safavid Empire, ca. 16th century CE. A wheel-thrown jar or vase formed from stone paste (also known as fritware) with a lustrous layer of brilliant glaze in a style known as Kashan ware, that has been made into a functional lamp. The turquoise surface contains simple geometric linear and arabesque motifs across the upper shoulder in black manganese. In the mid to late 20th century this pottery vessel was mounted on a wooden pedestal with a brass stem and a pair of light sockets that each contain a turn switch. A push button switch on the wood base is another convenient addition, and the lamp is fully functional! Kashan ware is so-named for the city in the Damascus region where the style is believed to have originated which is known for producing high-quality pottery during the medieval period. Size: 10" Diameter x 22" H (25.4 cm x 55.9 cm)

Minor chips to base of vase, otherwise intact with nice craquelure. Minor scuffs to wood pedestal and brass fittings. Wiring and electrical parts function, push button and both turn knobs work.
