Description
The plate with petal shaped rim and decorated with a bird and grapevine, with brocade panels, the underside with grapevine in colors, the center with fuku 'good fortune' mark in green and black enamels within a circle of underglaze blue. Brown dressing to rim. Wear to enamels, shallow chip to underside of rim. Likely Meiji period. Offered together with a Ko Kutani style bowl with scalloped and molded petal rim and sides, the interior decorated with two birds with foliage and rockwork. The exterior with green enamel over an allover cloud-like pattern in black. Base with fuku type mark in green and black enamels. Repair to rim. Plate, approx. 10" diameter. Bowl, approx. 7 3/4" diameter, 3 1/4" height. Provenance: Estate of Cayce Odom of Charlottesville, VA.
